On BABES FEST 2020: A Weekend Of Good Shows And Better People
๐๐๐๐๐ง
THANK YOU to the 1500+ people who joined us for #babesfest2019 events over the past weekend. From incredible sets by Madame Gandhi and Calliope Musicals to uplifting conversations with Evelyn From the Internets and Jarina de Marco to empowering films from Femme Frontera, our seven-event sprint supporting women and nonbinary artists was nothing short of amazing.
Weโd like to thank our entire lineup, as well as our sponsors at Titoโs Vodka, and our friends at Red Bull Music, Juiceland, Resplendent Hospitality, Party at the Moontower Rentals, the Austin School of Film, Big Medium, MYEVENTISTHEBOMB and more for their contributions toward BABES FESTโs success.
Huge shouts are in order to our team, including: Executive Director Jane Hervey for curatorial and production oversight, as well as our production staff, Xochi Solis and Natalia Rocafuerte, our ongoing team at #BBATX (JP Rivfe, Margeaux Labat and Mary Grado) and our committee and volunteers for making this possible. WHAT A VILLAGE.
We will be reconvening in 2020. ~
In the meantime, hereโs 10 lessons and next steps from BABES FEST 2019:
1.) Reminisce on the fest with this visual recap by Jinni J, Brittany Halberg and Tess Cagle.
2.) Bask in the joy of our BABES FEST photobooth shots from MYEVENTISTHEBOMB.
3.) Listen to a playlist curated by Madame Gandhi featuring artists from BABES FEST 2019.
5.) Learn more about #BBATX, the organization behind BABES FEST, and come out to a different program of ours this year! Our next event in Austin, Texas is our biannual marketplace, craftHER Market, on Oct. 12 and 13.
6.) Continue supporting this festivalโs lineup of artists and research their work.
7.) Donate to the festival. :)
8.) Learn more about inclusion riders, which is a strategy BABES FEST uses to create a festival experience that is performed and played by more than 75% women and nonbinary folks.
9.) MAKE YOUR OWN ART, and submit yourself to BABES FEST 2020. Submissions for the festivalโs showcases will reopen in November 2019. (Sign up for our email list to stay in the loop.)
10.) Think about what you consume. We have power over where we place our attention. Do you listen to and support diverse artists? What do you watch? Who are you putting on?
